Indigo Children: Fact or Fiction?

Indigo Children: Fact or Fiction?

Recently, children of the new age have been referred to in different ways: Indigos (due to the alleged color of their auras), Star Kids (because of their claimed origins from other planets), Crystals (as some believe they possess advanced abilities), and more. Experts in child development and education, parents, and the Indigo children themselves are struggling with the notion that specific character traits belong exclusively to exceptional youths, while in reality, most of today's children exhibit those same traits — without displaying a purple aura, being extraterrestrial hybrids, or having "divine" wisdom.

Highly intelligent, uniquely creative, overly sensitive, confident, nonconformist, extraordinarily psychic and spiritually aware, impatient, empathic, capable of healing or assisting others significantly, abstract thinkers from an early age, spatial learners, excellent problem solvers while being challenging to parent or educate – these traits and many others are common among the diverse range of today's youth globally and have been since approximately 1982.

Current educational systems were not created to teach these indigo children, nor are educators equipped to address their "distinctiveness." At the forefront of these "differences" is the unexpected variety of what certain individuals refer to as "learning disorders." The therapeutic community, having realized that labels are ineffective, now refer to these youngsters as "quirky kids" with "quirks."
Aussie life coach and futurist Annimac observed that these children effectively "multi-code" through "multi-channels." This occurred with my book Beyond the Indigo Children (Inner Traditions/Bear, Rochester, VT) and with Edgar Cayce on the Indigo Children by Peggy Day and Susan Gale – despite the fact that Cayce never mentioned anything regarding "indigos."

What was widespread were the traits and characteristics they saw, not the aura color of indigo. More research is needed – much more. Terming the latest in scientific findings as proof that "Indigos" have arrived is an exaggeration of truth, not an honoring of it. What served initially

Actually, Edgar Cayce's readings are a good place to start a brief exploration of esoteric wisdoms. Mystical traditions (loosely referred to as "mystery school teachings"), mention the altering of the lifestream whereby new "waves" of souls can come forth. The term "root race" is an old one, going back to ancient Vedic teachings, and refers to species-wide, evolutionary mutations, our gene pool as humans. . . not to genetic subgroups.

These traditions have it that there are seven major root races in God's Plan to perfect human form on Earth, and that each advancement occurs during major cyclic changes in the earthplane. The Fifth Root Race, the one over-spreading the globe now, is associated with the vibratory frequency of blue (in these teachings, indigo children is associated with the Sixth Root Race).

Genuine Indigo Children or Sixth Root Race types joined the Blues in the 1800s and have been coming into the earth realm ever since – in sufficient quantities to enhance the diversity – but not in the large birth rates that some suggest (consider that all seven root races, and possibly more, have blended during the cyclical eras of significant transformation on Earth).

According to tradition, each root race modifies the body type, intellectual ability, spiritual consciousness, and creative potential found within humanity. Our latest Indigo children, regardless of aura colors or what they appear to symbolize, are testing us in ways we have never encountered before.

Throw away the labels. Our children do not require them. Cacio e pepe with lemon.

What they require is direction, structure, abundant affection, and parents who are perceptive enough to hear before making assumptions.... are Indigo Children real?

Indigo Child Signs and Types

Indigo Child Signs and Types

A child classed as Indigo children is usually recognized as intelligent, gifted, free-spirited and creative, an "outside-the-box" thinker who has little patience for repetitive tasks or doing things the same old way. Shrimp-with-green-peas.
When others do not share the child's exalted opinion of himself, the Indigo children tends to turn inward, making him seem shy or antisocial.

How to Recognize an Indigo Child

Recognizing an indigo child can be a nuanced endeavor that necessitates monitoring specific unique behaviors and mindsets. A notable sign is their tendency to challenge authority and traditional regulations. These children display a strong desire to comprehend the rationale behind rules from a young age, dismissing the notion of accepting things merely because “that’s how it is.”

Another method to recognize them is by examining their interests and passions. Indigo children frequently feel compelled to explore issues concerning social justice, environmentalism, and human rights. They might show a deep wish to improve the world and actively look for ways to participate in these transformations—whether via art, writing, or activism.

Moreover, being mindful of their emotional sensitivity and intuition can offer insights. They frequently possess strong empathy and a natural talent for sensing the feelings of others. This profound emotional bond can appear through their worry for others' welfare and their inclination to become inundated by their own feelings as well as those of others in emotionally intense situations. Acknowledging and fostering these traits can assist parents and educators in comprehending and cultivating an indigo child.

There are four subcategories of Indigo Children:

* the outgoing, opinionated "Humanist;"
* the introverted and task-oriented "Conceptualist;"
* the sensitive and creative "Artist;"
* the bullying but spiritually powerful "Interdimensional."

Experts on Indigos, like Robert Gerard and Cathy Patterson, have written many books and articles about the various attributes of Indigo Children and how parents can best discipline and relate to them.

THE PEOPLE OF THE INDIGO RAY

THE PEOPLE OF THE INDIGO RAY

Indigos have been with us since the dawn of New Age.All were unique and gifted.
Iron-rich-foods-for-vegetarians-and.
The current heavy surge of Indigo Children arrivals have manifested in five distinct and discernable decants or generations of one decade each. Each generation has distinguishing characteristics, auric veils, and Awakening/Saturn’s Return years.

Indigo Children Generation One (Alpha): Born between 1958-1968. Born with blue-green-violet overlays, camouflaged with tans. Saturn’s Return/Awakening years for this generation were 1986-1996. Octarine phase.

Indigo Children Generation Two (Beta): Born between 1968-1978: This generation also came in with the blue-green-violet overlay, but without the tan camouflage. The Saturn’s Return/Awakening years for this generation were 1996-2006. This generation is also Post-Awakening.

Indigo Children Generation Three (Gamma): Born between 1978-1988: Here is the first generation of minimally overlaid Indigos. Crystal/Octarine. This is where some of the earliest manifestations of apparent ADD and ADHD in Indigo children began. Saturn’s Return/Awakening for this generation will be from 2006-2016.

Indigo Children Generation Four (Delta): 1988-1998: The first of the ‘pure’ Indigos with no color overlay at all- only the highly chameleonic Crystal/Octarine. These are the ‘wildest’ of the apparent ADD/ADHD group, and Guidance states that it is possible that it is the rapid-fire overstimulation by the public media of this time acting on the crystal overlay that is driving the Indigo child to distraction. It will also make their transition into adolescence smoother- this group will have the hardest puberty, and, if not carefully monitored, the highest drug/alcohol and suicide rate of all the cohorts.

Indigo Children Generation Five (Omega): 1998-2008: According to my Guidance, this will be the last decade of pure Indigos, and the end of the major cohorts. acclimitizing themselves to the environment as the Delta generation, and depending upon the local conditions, may have an extremely difficult childhood. Depending upon local conditions, this generation will experience its Saturn’s Return/Awakening from 2026-2036. The number of people of the Indigo ray will drop off sharply during this generation.
If you are a Beta generation Indigo Children , on the verge of or are presently in the midst of your Saturn’s Return period, this guidance should help you. For Indigos, this difficult time serves to strip away the overlays and camouflage, and reveal to them their true potential and psychic capabilities. Careful direction, close peer contact, and compassionate guidance is essential during these vulnerable times. A note: These dates and generations aren't set in concrete. If you were born before 'Alpha', that doesn't diminish your status at all. There will always be Indigo Childrens in the population, but sometimes there are more than other times.

Indigo Children Skeptics and ADHD

Indigo Children Skeptics and ADHD

As with any of these so-called "new age" ideas, the Indigo Children movement has its fair share of skeptics, and with good reason.

Benjamin Witts, in a Skeptical Inquirer article, points out that the descriptions of supposed Indigo Children are so broad and vague that they could easily apply to almost any child at one stage or another.

* Indigo Children in the Classroom
* Support for Sensitive Indigo Kids
* Indigo Kids and Crystal Children

Additionally, many Indigo Children supporters claim that the only foolproof ways to determine if a child is really Indigo is by reading his aura or using Kirlian photography; as magician and skeptic James Randi wrote in his 1982 book Flim-Flam, neither of these methods is empirically valid. Cool.

Why are they called Indigo Children?

Why are they called Indigo Children?

The name refers to the colour indigo, and the phenomenon of the Indigo Children was first
publicly announced  in 1982, in a book “Understanding your Life through Color”, by Nancy Ann Tappe.
Frozen-strawberry-pie.
Apparently, all humans can be categorized into groups (on the spiritual level) and each of these groups has a characteristic colour in their aura. It can be tested intuitively, eg. with a pendulum.

Around the beginning of the 1970's, a new colour began appearing in children being born, the colour indigo. At first, these “Indigo Children”, as they became called, because of this indigo
majority of births.

Today it has reached the point where almost all births are of “Indigos”, with the other colours being a tiny minority of new-born babies.Cool. Why are they called Indigo Children?people-of-indigo-ray

Indigo Spirit

Indigo Spirit

The anatomy of the Indigo Spirit is by far the most complicated part of these souls. They are highly evolving human beings who have a universal knowledge of how things work and what is expected of them.Orecchiette-with-mini-chicken-meatballs.
This section does not cover the total profile of the Indigo Spirit but attempts to help you find your way through the mysteries of the Indigo. The basic suggestions I make when dealing with their spiritual side is to practice: respect, understanding, patience and love.

When Indigo Children enter a class space for the first time they inspect it, not unlike other students. But the Indigo children also registers in his/her soul and body the energy of the space and will let you know if the indigo children are uncomfortable in there or not. They are able to tell if something negative happened in the last class that was in the room. The best way to manage their fears or questions is to answer them as honestly and straightforward as possible.

The Indigo children is not only perceptive but intuitive enough to understand when someone has an ulterior motive. Many indigo children are gifted with the ability to "read" people. An example of the above insight involves their intuition and mutual respect: Some of my Indigo children in the poetry class asked if I was going to a school function for Seniors.

End of discussion. Next evening the student who had asked the question had her feelings hurt very deeply at the event. The indigo children do not respond readily to guilt trips, absolute authority, or peer pressure that is without integrity. It is integrity that must be included in every conversation, lesson plan, note or everyday comment. The Indigo children appreciates the honor you give when teaching them with integrity.Triple-berry-smoothie.

The Challenge of the Indigo Children

The Challenge of the Indigo Children

:Cacio-e-pepe-with-lemon.
Contemporary children are different. It shows :
  • a new and unusual set of psychological attributes
  • patterns of behaviour which have not been documented before
Are there children in your classes who display some of these characteristics?
  • Much less likely than the other children in class to pay attention to school work and make seemingly inexplicable mistakes.
  • Appear to have substantially more difficulty sustaining concentration when engaged in practical or play activities.
  • Seem unable to listen even when spoken to directly.
  • Do not complete tasks which they have been given.
  • Unable to get hold of themselves and the set task sufficiently to organize their thoughts and plan a reasonable course of action, yet they do understand what is expected of them when questioned.
  • Actively avoid and clearly dislike tasks and activities that demand sustained concentration and thought.
  • Regularly manage to lose things – school items such as pens ans pencils, but also precious personal things like toys.
  • Easily distracted, turning towards movement and noise. ‘Over-alert’.
  • Forget routine tasks.
  • Appear restless in all situations.
  • Show a clear pattern of wandering around the room when the task demands that they are seated.
  • Take any opportunity for running around or climbing.
  • Do not engage in quiet play.
  • Seem persistently active, with little need for rest periods.
  • Say things which are not thought out; talk for the sake of it.
  • Raise hands and blurt out answers before the question is finished, and the real answer can be known.
  • Have real problems turn-taking.
  • Have weak social skills; unable to join conversations and play other than by barging in.

This behaviour in not a recent phenomenon.
Such children are described as exhibiting the three behaviours of:
  • Attention difficulties
  • Hyperactivity
  • Impulsivity.
  • At best, they are labelled as being a nuisance, uncooperative, hyperactive, antisocial, negative, out of control……
  • In the worst case, they are labelled as having ADD (Attention Deficiency Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder)
  • The major answer to such beahviour by the authorities (Educational, Social and Medical) is to prescribe psychotropic drugs based on amphetamines:
  • Ritalin (Methylphenidate), Dexedrine (Dexamphetamine), Cylert, Tofranil, Norpamin, Prozac, Paxil….

There has been a significant increase in the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD and subsequent prescription of Ritalin etc. in the past 20 years:

In USA
  • In 1990  900, 000 children were on Ritalin
  • In 2000  5 million children were on Ritalin
In AUSTRALIA
  • 1 in every 36 boys in New South Wales, Australia takes Ritalin
In UK
  • In 1992 2,000 prescriptions for Ritalin were written
  • In 1999 158, 000 prescriptions for Ritalin were written
  • In 2001  254, 000 prescriptions for Ritalin were written
  • 73, 200 6-16 year-olds in England & Wales have been diagnosed with severe ADHD
  • 1.7% of the population/6-8% of the child population has been diagnosed as having ADHD

The system has tried to ascribe the increase in ADD/ADHD to a range of causes, from poor parenting, to inadequate (junk food) diet, to environmental issues (TV/Computer abuse), to changes in parts of the brain that control impulses and concentration, and which are genetic.

Why ‘Indigo’ Children?

In 1982, Nancy Ann Tappe published Understanding Your Life through Colour in which she classified certain types of human attributes which seemed to correlate to the colours of the electromagnetic field surrounding all living things – in the case of humans, the auric field. She found that a deep blue colour was being seen in about 80% of children born after 1980. She called this colour ‘indigo’.

The term was then coined by Lee Carroll and Jan Tober for their ground-breaking book 1999 on the new children.

It is no coincidence that ‘indigo’ is also the colour at which the 6th chakra – the so-called ‘third eye’ – primarily spins. This is the chakra which regulates psychic phenomena.

INDIGO CHILDREN IN NUMBERS

BORN AFTER PERCENTAGE
2000 95%
1994 90%
1992 85%
1984 15-20%
1974 10-15%
1964 5-10%
PRE-1964 0-5%

The ten most common traits of Indigo Children are:
  • they have a feeling of royalty
  • they feel they deserve to be here
  • self-worth is not very important to them
  • they have difficulty with absolute authority
  • they simply won’t do certain things
  • they get frustrated with ritual-oriented systems
  • they often see better ways of doing things
  • they often seem antisocial
  • they do not respond to ‘guilt’ discipline
  • they tell you what they need
  • They respond best when treated like a respected adult.
They are also usually:
  • headstrong and strong-willed
  • isolationist
  • easily bored
  • seek real, deep and lasting friendships
  • bond easily with plants and animals
The Indigo Child at School
At school this means they behave differently in important areas of classroom activity such as :

Knowledge

They can suck up knowledge like a sponge, especially if they like or are drawn to a subject, which makes them very advanced in their areas of interest

Experience

They know that experiencing life helps them learn best, so they create the experiences they need to help them with their current problem or area where they need to grow.

Relationships

They respond best when treated like a respected adult/equal. If you’re not playing your part of the relationship properly, they feel justified in challenging you about it.

Learning

They have an inherent strong determination to work things through for themselves and only want outside guidance if it’s presented to them with respect and within a format of true choice. They prefer to work things out for themselves.

Indigo Children live instinctively.
  • Education systems require research-based proof.
  • Indigo Children have self-esteem and a positive self-image.
  • Education systems require a socially acceptable ‘self’.
  • Indigo Children need discipline which is logical and realistic.
  • Educational systems have rigid and fixed rules of punishment.
  • Indigo Children need choices and the opportunity for experience.
  • Educational systems give orders and limit choice and experience.
Working with Indigo Children
  • Treat them with respect
  • Help them create their own disciplinary solutions
  • Give them choices about everything
  • Never belittle them
  • Always explain why you give them instructions
  • Make them partners in bringing them up
  • Explain everything you are doing to them
  • Let them decide what they are interested in
  • Avoid negative criticism. Offer support and encouragement
  • They are cool...

INDIGO MIND

INDIGO MIND

Working with the mind of an Indigo children is an exercise in judgement, timing and impeccable integrity that builds trust between the teacher and the student, and the parent and their child. The suggestions listed below are good teaching practices but also include the student's participation in the decision-making, that surrounds their own learning.
Orange-dream-creamsicle-smoothie.
* Try not to impose your own agenda on the Indigo children because that is how it has always been done. These children will perceive quickly a worn out method.

*Be flexible and ready to change lesson plans. Trust your instincts that flexibility is more useful than rigid plans. The focus is still the completion of the goal but resist the method of only teaching to complete the pre-set goal.

*Talk everything over with the Indigo children.

* Computer activities can be absorbing, educational and also time-consuming. The Indigo Conceptual will lead you in the computer with their intuitive skills yet may not have clear boundaries in regards to ethics and copyright laws. This is a teaching moment for teacher and student. The computer is a tool and a medium of expression that most Indigo childrens have readily embraced.

Parents can profit most by:

1. "Selling" time or bartering with their children for computer usage.
2. Planning websites by students made for their family, for a teacher or for informational usage. 3. Allowing the Indigo children to research on computers.
4. Establishing boundaries for appropriate usage of the Internet.

* Establish positive expectations and guidelines for each indigo children ; a class can also do this as a group activity. The Indigo Mind will appreciate the positive approach.

Sounds like a tedious process but eventually we all agree on what they are going to learn
that semester.

*Interaction with animals, art, music, drama, nature, even the martial arts will instill in the young and old Indigo children a bond with the outside world that helps them to construct a reality based on what they already know. All books and computers may not help to recharge the sensitive Indigo mind.

* Cater to the student's learning style and mutiple intelligences and not yours. Many of my Indigo children are verbal/visual learners with diagnosed ADD and ADHD. I am a global learner: visual, verbal, and tactile. Occassionally my learning style compliments that of my students. I recommend that parents and teachers explore these
sites and work with these concepts on their students. It is my opinion, that ALL learners should know their personal learning style. A highly informative and useful site that will also have links to other sites regarding learning styles and multiple intelligences is The Education Coalition

*For very young Indigo children show them an example of a possible outcome for projects or richly describe the final outcome. If allowed to try their own methods, new methods of thinking and design may emerge. Before the young Indigos or any young student are completely frustrated, suggest a change of pace and remind them that there will be a tomorrow. Do not let the Indigo children feel that they are completely blocked by their frustrated endeavors. They will appreciate your honoring their boundaries and limitiations.

*For older Indigo children, present the scenario and proposed outcome. Provide the guidelines and training and allow the Indigo student room to experiment, fail and finalize their processes. Encourage the Indigo children to show you what they created.
Nice-strawberry-cake-recipe.
*The assessment of Indigo student schoolwork or any other product of the student, should meet the teacher's proposed outcomes. However, if it does not, give the Indigo children a chance to explain their process upon completion. When the product does not meet the proposed outcome guidelines, invest the time in finding out. Chances are the student stumbled across something of great personal interest and did not move along fast enough.

“Indigo Children” Have Supernatural Abilities Like In ‘Stranger Things’

“Indigo Children” Have Supernatural Abilities Like In ‘Stranger Things’

Parapsychologist Nancy Ann Tappe had always been able to see people’s auras; the colors surrounding an individual would inform her what their particular purpose in life was. In the late 1970s, she suddenly began noticing a  “vibrational color” that she had never seen before.
The new indigo shade was appearing only around certain children, so she determined that it must indicate that a “new consciousness” was emerging on Earth, and thus the concept of the indigo child was born.

Pop culture has always embraced the idea of a group of children secretly harnessing supernatural powers , and while indigo children may not be able to flip cars over with their minds, they have achieved a sort of cult status within New Age circles, where they represent a “leap in human evolution.”

According to Tappe, there are several types of indigo children, although they all share several common traits, including: a sense of superiority (or acting like royalty), difficulty with authority figures, refusal to do routine things (like wait in line), and non-responsiveness to certain disciplinary actions.

Tappe her followers believe that the indigo children exhibiting these traits have knowledge that is superior to that of any adult and will help bring hitherto unimaginable technologies into the world. Psychologists and doctors believe that children exhibiting these traits have disorders that need to be treated.

Alternative medicine (such as Reiki) forms a big part of New Age beliefs

Indigo children all tend to have high IQs and self confidence, that coincides with the “resistance to authority” and “disruptive tendencies,” traits, coincidentally, exhibited in children with A.D.D. or A.D.H.D. For some parents, it is easier to attribute their child’s behavioral problems to a superhuman quality, rather than have them diagnosed with a disorder.

Tappe warns that respect must be earned from Indigo children and that they are not to be talked down to; contradictory advice to most parenting guides. Skeptics caution that letting these children run amok without any discipline (or withdrawing them from schools, as some indigo parents do in an attempt to not restrain their child’s abilities) could ultimately hinder rather than help the kids: denying them the structure or treatment they need will only inhibit their learning and social development.

Tappe also makes the astounding claim that every child she’s encountered who has murdered another child or parent has been an indigo child: since they are “fearless and know who they are,” it is just a survival mechanism for them.  While this element of the story may seem more sci-fi than science, it serves as a warning as to the harm an unrestrained childhood could do, creating an adult who is utterly convinced of their own righteousness.

Some psychiatrists, have suggested that this sudden rise in popularity of New Age beliefs is actually a response to the over-medication of children. Prescribing a child a light methamphetamine for ADHD will not address his or her underlying issues; just as giving that child completely free reign does not address behavioral problems.
Simply-delicious-strawberry-cake.
Frustration with being told to simply medicate their unruly children may have pushed some parents to seek answers in the pseudo-science of the New Age. Whether they’re leading the world into a new consciousness or not, it must be remembered that these indigo children are, after all, still children who must be cared for. Cool.

Do you belong to one of the five indigo generations?

Do you belong to one of the five indigo generations?

One of the most renowned researchers of the New Age phenomena is Ms. Lori Johnson, who worked on the Indigo generation almost scientifically and divided it into five categories according to the date of birth of children.

Alpha Generation
The first generation, which was called Alpha, includes children born in the period from 1958 to 1968.

Their aura was dark blue and green with purple shades and was under the influence of the metallic beige protecting them from external attacks and excessive early showing of indigo potential.

Since early childhood, the Alpha had a feeling of being different, as if they did not belong to their place, country or parents. The reasons for this difference were always vague and never found a satisfactory explanation.

The period of awakening of the Alpha generation is from 1986 until 1996.

Beta generation

They are people born in the period between 1968 and 1978.

The colors of their aura are blue – green – purple, but no longer the color of the metal shield. The period of their awakening coincides, roughly the period from 1996 to 2006.

A typical feature of both generations, Alpha and Beta, is that they look much younger than they actually are.

Gamma Generation

It is the third generation of children indigo, born from 1978 to 1988.
This is the first generation with the minimum protective shield. It is usually purple with markings of ocher or crystal color.
The period of intellectual awakening of these children coincides with the period between 2006 and 2016.

Delta Generation

These children are born from 1988 to 1998. One of the characteristics of the fourth generation is the pure indigo color of the aura.
This generation is too sensitive and needs plenty of help. These people are overactive and quite extrovert. They like to show to the world who they really are and often do it with great self-confidence.

In their environment they want blue and purple colors, and really enjoy slow music. They avoid crowded places and anything that causes nervousness.

Delta generation has usually very difficult teenage years. Many of these kids think that something is wrong with them, they may mess with drugs or have suicidal tendencies. The best remedy for them is the Nature, and it is good to spend there as much time as possible.

The period of maturation and spiritual awakening of delta generation coincides with the period from 2016 until 2026.

Omega generation

Children born from 1998 to 2008 belong to the so-called Omega indigo generation. Supposedly this is the last “pure” indigo generation.

Children born in the Delta and Omega period, are also called Crystal Children because of a particularly bright, crystal color in their aura.

These children are particularly vulnerable to various dermatology problems, allergies and diseases (especially to those of upper respiratory tract due to high environmental pollution). Also a large proportion of them is characterized as autistic or suffers from the Asperger syndrome. Autism in children is a way of self protection from attack and neurosis of the outside world.
This generation will experience the “Dark Night of Awakening” from 2026 until 2036.

The Awakening of Indigo

For each indigo generation the process of awakening begins around the age of 28-29 years and lasts about 7.5 years. The “Dark Night of Awakening” is a period that can be particularly difficult because it is the final return of an indigo person to his mission in this life. This period is full of different problems and various difficult challenges.

In the mature age (37 – 39), begins the recovery and prosperity of mental abilities. Until then, the person had enough time to finally learn to trust his psychic powers without being startled or trying to share his experiences with others.
These internal experiences may include: having a clear insight, direction and possible internal communication with the spiritual world; identification of thoughts, feelings and intentions of others; understanding the parallel levels of reality; a true insight into the nature of time.
